Swimming Pool Terms and Definitions

1.

Raised Bond Beam

Raised Beam is when the wall of the pool is raised above the level of the decking. It can create a step in the decking or an area to create a water feature. Raised beam can also be used to retain soil. This area requires additional tile and or veneer.

2.

Rolled Bond Beam

Rolled Bond Beam can be used as a design feature and method of saving money. It is generally used in areas that do not have decking or areas used as planters. Rolled Beam is when the the shotcrete structure of the pool is carried above the standard elevation to create a curb. This curb allows landscaping to be brought up to the waters edge. It can only be used with Pebble Tec pools!

3.

Baja Step

A Baja Step is a shelf under water that varys in depth. It is custom designed and can be installed in any pool. Baja steps are a great feature especially for small children. It gives the little ones a place to play where they can touch the bottom.

4.

Sheer Fall

A Sheer fall is a water feature that flows from a section of Raised Beam. It is a sheet of water that varys in length and can be installed at many different elevations.

5.

Surface Select Boulders

Surface Select Bouders are granite boulders which MPC prefers to use in all its rock installations. They are boulders that include coloring from aging in the sun, also known as " Desert Varnish".

6.

Acrylic Lace Decking

Acrylic Lace Deking is standard on all MPC swimming pools. It has a very similar look to Kool Deck. However, Acrylic Lace Decking is far superior to Kool Deck and offers a variety of color choices.

7.

Scuppers

A scupper is a water feature. Scuppers allow water to flow from raised areas and columns into your pool. They can be constructed from many materials such as Copper, Stainless Steel, Stone, and Tile. Scuppers may add a unique design element to your project.

8.
Is Salt Water the way to go.
In some cases salt water sanatizers can add to the enjoyment of your swimming pool experience. However as a general following MPC does not recommend the use and installation of salt water chlorinators. Salt is caustic to concrete and many natural materials that your pool may be constructed from. It is important to research salt water pools befor you add the feature to your project.

9.
How can I make my pool more environmentally friendly?
There are several choices that you have when choosing your pool equipment. Cartridge filters eliminate the need of backwashing your pool. This will save the otherwise waisted water. You can install a two speed pump, which allows your pool to consume less energy (this also saves on energy costs). We use the Pentair Mastertemp heater which is the most Eco friendly heater available. Pentair Pool Products offers a great line of Eco Select pool equipment products.
